Tensiometer for soil moisture
Effective, convincing and inexpensive version of a measuring instrument for soil moisture.
Remark
A water saturated porous clay cell is connected to an exchangeable manometer by means of a
water filled airtight acrylic glass tube for measuring underpressure. Water in soil is under influence
of certain bonding energies with a corresponding water tension. By contact of the water saturated
cell with soil the existing underpressure of the soil water is transferred to the manometer via clay
cell and water filliing.
Mechanism
The absorbing tension of soil waters which is displayed as underpressure on the manometer rises
when the soil moisture decreases.
Tensiometer versions
All versions are equipped with a manometer 0-600 mbar/ hPa.
